Peace Through Hymns: The Story of HÛ NEFES’s Beginnings

“Peace Through Hymns” is not just a title to me—it’s an expression of a beautiful spiritual journey that began in my life. Sometimes the most beautiful journeys in a person’s life begin when they least expect it. My journey, too, began with hymns.

The Impact of a Hymn on Human Life

Even when everything seems to be going well in our lives, we sometimes feel an indescribable sense of unease deep inside. Amid the hustle and bustle of daily life, our responsibilities, the challenges we face, and our thoughts about the future, there are times when we neglect ourselves.

I’ve had times like that in my life, too.

Before HÛ NEFES came into my life, there were times when I struggled to find inner peace. Amid the stresses of daily life, I needed something that would soothe my soul and do me good.

Then I began to take a closer interest in hymns.

At first, I didn’t realize that this would lead to such a wonderful change in my life. But as time went on, I realized just how much good engaging with hymns—preparing them and listening to them—did for me.

Hymns have become more than just pieces of music I listen to. As I prepare them, I’ve begun to feel more at peace and to carve out a spiritual space for myself amid the hustle and bustle of life.

And so, the foundations of HÛ NEFES were laid.

Behind Every Hymn There Is a Life, a Story

One of the most wonderful things I realized when I began composing hymns was that I got to know the spiritual figures whose works I was composing more closely.

As I researched the lives of the prophets, the self-sacrifices of the Companions, and the experiences of the great figures who have left their mark on Islamic history, I felt my love for them grow even stronger.

Because, for me, there was a huge difference in how I felt between simply reading about a person’s life and composing a hymn that tells that story.

While working on books that recount the patience of a prophet, the loyalty of a Companion, or the scholarly journey of a great Islamic scholar, I had the opportunity to reflect more deeply on their lives.

Each new work has become a new learning journey for me.

The more I learned, the more my love grew. As my love grew, I wanted to research more, read more, and create new works.

After a while, I realized this: I wasn’t just composing hymns. With every hymn I composed, I was also learning and growing spiritually.

What Did the Peace Brought by Hymns Teach Me?

People have spiritual needs just as much as they have material needs in their lives.

Sometimes a kind word, sometimes a prayer, and sometimes a hymn we hear can touch our hearts.

As I became more interested in spiritual matters, I began to see their impact on my own life.

Researching, learning, composing hymns, and listening to them has become a peaceful pastime for me. Especially during difficult times, engaging in these activities has helped me gather my thoughts and feel better.

I also realized that I didn’t want to keep what I had learned all to myself.

Because I believe that sharing valuable knowledge with others—even if it brings only a tiny bit of benefit to someone else’s life—is truly valuable.

Perhaps someone who listens to a hymn I’ve composed will find peace. Perhaps they’ll become curious about a prophet’s life and begin to research it. Or perhaps they’ll recall a beautiful prayer they’d long since forgotten.

The mere possibility of such a thing is very precious to me.

The peace I found through the hymns became one of the most valuable things I gained on my HÛ NEFES journey.

HÛ NEFES: What Kind of Journey Is It?

When I created HÛ NEFES, my goal wasn’t simply to compose hymns.

I wanted to create a space where I could share our spiritual values, good character, love, compassion, and the exemplary lives from Islamic history with a wide range of people.

Moreover, I don’t want these works to be limited only to people who speak Turkish.

One of my greatest goals is to reach people in different parts of the world through the hymns we’ve composed in various languages and to come together around shared spiritual values.

Even if we don’t understand each other’s language, we can sometimes share the same feelings.

That’s exactly one of the things I love most about HÛ NEFES.

What Does the Future Hold for Us?

I don’t want HÛ NEFES’s journey to be limited to hymns.

Over time, I also plan to produce small booklets and digital publications that tell the stories of the lives of the prophets, the Companions, and important figures in Islam.

This way, we’ll be able to learn more about the life story behind the hymn we’re listening to.

I also want to enrich this journey with articles we will write on prayers, remembrance of God, and various spiritual topics.

Of course, all of this takes time, effort, and research. However, working on a project that I enjoy and find meaningful gives me the motivation to keep going.

Maybe You Need a Fresh Start, Too

I know that everyone reading this has their own story.

We all get tired, feel sad, or search for new meaning in our lives from time to time.

I’ve found that engaging with hymns and spiritual exploration has been good for me. Perhaps for you, too, a prayer, a hymn, a good book, or a new piece of knowledge you’ve learned could be the start of something new.

What matters is that a person can make room in their life for the things that bring beauty and benefit to themselves and others.

I will continue to share my own spiritual journey through HÛ NEFES.

I hope that the works we have created and the information we will share will touch the heart of someone else when they need it most.
